EMDR therapy

A powerful, evidence-based therapy to help you process the past and find lasting relief from anxiety.

EMDR Therapy

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive psychotherapy that helps you process and recover from past experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing. It involves using side to side eye movements combined with talk therapy in a specific and structured format. EMDR helps process the negative images, emotions, beliefs and body sensations associated with traumatic memories that seem to be stuck. These can contribute to a range of mental health problems.

EMDR helps you to see things from a different perspective and relieves the symptoms that you were suffering. EMDR was developed for therapy for treating trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It’s recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a treatment for PTSD, but it can be used to help with a range of mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, addictions, behavioural difficulties and relationship issues.

“Amy did not rush anything, everything was at my pace. If it wasn’t for Amy, I wouldn’t like to think of the path I might have taken. I cannot thank her enough.”

Is EMDR right for me?

EMDR is particularly powerful if you feel that your past is still “showing up” in your daily life, making it hard to move forward. It is a highly effective, evidence-based approach if you identify with any of the following:

  • You feel “stuck” in old patterns: You have tried traditional talk therapy but still find yourself reacting to the same triggers or intrusive “what if” thoughts that you can’t seem to switch off.
  • Anxiety feels physical: Your stress manifests as a racing heart, a weight on your chest, or a constant sense of dread that feels more like a bodily reaction than just a thought.
  • You want to process trauma: Whether it is a single event or years of “life things” piling up, you want a structured way to move memories from a high-stress state into a place of calm and logic.

How it works

Initial chat

Let’s start with a free 15-minute phone call. It’s a chance to discuss what you’re going through and for you to decide if I’m the right therapist to help you.

Your session

We will then book your first video session. My therapy is all online, providing a safe, private space for us to work together from the comfort of your own home.

Feeling better

We’ll work on helping you feel lighter and more in control. Gaining practical tools to quiet the racing thoughts, manage anxiety, and find a sense of lasting calm.

What outcomes can I expect?

The outcome of EMDR is a profound shift in how you experience the world. By neutralising the emotional charge of difficult memories, you gain a lasting sense of calm and resilience. You will find yourself reacting to old triggers with logic rather than fear, feeling lighter, more present, and finally back in control.
